Should You Consider Oral Antivirals to Treat COVID-19?

Two oral antiviral treatments for COVID-19 are now available with a healthcare professional’s prescription. The treatments Paxlovid, by Pfizer, and Lagevrio, by Merck, both have an Emergency Use Authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to help your body fight COVID-19. These oral antiviral treatments help to stop the SARS-CoV-2 virus (the virus that causes COVID-19) from multiplying in your body. This helps to lower the amount of the virus that is in your body which can result in less serious symptoms and may lower the chances of getting worse and/or needing hospitalization.

On January 22, 2021 there were 101 residents, health care staff and partners of The Springs of Simpsonville who were vaccinated by CVS. Peggy Masterson stated it is the first time we have been on the offensive in this fight against COVID-19. Staff and residents celebrated as they received the vaccine that starts them on a process of achieving herd immunity and then slowly reuniting with families and friends. Many staff and residents gave testimonials of how the vaccine is vitally important to changing the way we live and to stop people from getting ill.
